Why LED Panels Are Popular With Churches

If you’ve been in a house of worship lately, particularly along the East Coast, you’ve probably noticed a few changes over the past handful of years. As various churches continue to strive to deliver their message in new, interactive ways, LED panels have become much more popular and affordable.

Alongside audio equipment, LED panels are often used to deliver a pre-sermon message, display new initiatives, give announcements, display lyrics or even give people in the back a better way to view the pastor or speaker without their vision being obstructed.

Why not use TVs or Projectors?

Originally, many churches placed TVs and projectors around to try and solve these exact problems, but there were a few issues. It was discovered that:

  • TVs are less visible when viewed from an angle

  • Very large TVs (above consumer-level size) were incredibly expensive

  • Unlike LED Panels, you cannot scale them in size or expand to make them bigger

  • Extra-large TVs produce a lot of heat

  • Electricity costs were higher

  • Room brightness and ambient light are issues

  • Bulb and fan maintenance can be expensive and quickly outdated

  • Projectors cannot compete with lighting schemes and designs

Aside from the last point, which is a surprise to most, these are fairly obvious limitations with televisions and projectors, which is one reason why LED panel installation is such a fast-growing industry. They can be installed temporarily or permanently, give off little heat, keep electricity costs to a minimum and give off a much more pleasing light and are extremely flexible for stage design.

The “Vegas” Look

While some churches are overly concerned with looking like Vegas, there are many more factors there. Obviously lighting in the environment as well as the structure of the room itself are just to name a few. While they do use LED panels a lot in places like Vegas or New York, a visual display using LED Screens won’t significantly change the look of your church and can be reduced in brightness to match the aesthetics of the room. The real benefit is in their design flexibility and improved visual quality over projectors.

Of course, if a church’s goal is to spread their word as effectively as possible, then engaging the entire congregation regardless of their ability to see the front is going to help tremendously in getting their message across.
